This week marks the 70th anniversary of one of the most brutal battles of World War II. More than 40,000 U.S. and Japanese soldiers were killed, or wounded in the battle for the tiny South Pacific island of Iwo Jima.
Some local veterans of the battle for Iwo Jima are going to be honored in a special event in Santa Barbara by the Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation, and the Channel City Club.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco has one of their stories.
