UC Santa Barbara Study Shows California Sheephead Population Healthy, Helping To Protect Kelp From Urchins

A remarkable type of fish found off the South Coast is making a comeback, after its adult population took an alarming dip.

The California Sheephead is unique in two ways:  Not only does it play a key role in maintaining kelp ecosystems off our coast, it’s one of the fish off the West Coast which switches sexes during its lifetime.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco talks with a UC Santa Barbara researcher who’s just completed a major study involving the fish.
