Central Coast Man Gets Jail Sentence For Stealing Catch From Fishermen

Posted on Thursday, August 28, 2014 12:01am

A Central Coast man entered a no contest plea to four felony grand theft charges, stemming from allegations he stole other fishermen’s crabs from holding tanks at Santa Barbara Harbor, and sold them at fish markets.

John Anthony Wilson’s plead deal calls form him to serve 180 days in the Santa Barbara County jail, and be on three years probation.

The Santa Ynez Valley man is also being required to pay restitution to his victims.

State investigators say Wilson also were selling sea urchins, and crabs which were taken out of season.

His commercial fishing privileges have been revoked until the State Fish and Wildlife Commission looks at five misdemeanor charges he’s facing.
