Proposed Law To Allow Temporary Gun Ban For At-Risk People Passed By State Senate; Effort Inspired By Isla Vista Rampage

Posted on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 3:09pm

Some of the parents of the Isla Vista mass murder victims in May were in Sacramento today, to call for passage of a proposal to toughen gun laws.

They spoke in favor of AB 1014, which would make it easier for a family member, or the law enforcement community to get a court order temporarily prohibiting someone who is potentially dangerous to themselves, or others to possess a gun.

Elliott Roger stabbed three people to death, fatally shot three others, and wounded 13 in a rampage many believe occurred because of his mental instability.

The legislation co-authored by Democratic Assemblyman Das Williams of Santa Barbara was passed by the State Senate this afternoon, and now goes to the State Assembly for consideration.
