Navy Says It Will Sit Out Fight Between City Of Port Hueneme, and Port Of Hueneme Over Proposed Tax

The Navy has decided to sit out a fight between the City of Port Hueneme, and the Port of Hueneme over a proposal for a new tax which would impact the port’s users.

The Navy issued a statement saying it takes to position on local political matters.

Measure M would add a tax to the port’s customers, and contractors.

The City says it needs the proposed business licenses tax changes to raise an estimated $500,000, to one million dollars a year to cover increased costs for services, like street maintenance and police protection.

The Port opposes it, saying it could prompt some of it customers to move elsewhere.
