Cal Poly President Says Football Program Will Be Investigated In Wake Of Player Arrests

Posted on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 3:37pm

The President of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo says the university will conduct an investigation into the possible use of illegal drugs, and criminal activity within the university’s football program, and on campus.

The statement from Jeffrey Armstrong comes in the wake of a weekend armed robbery at a Cal Poly fraternity which led to the arrests of five Mustang football players, in what investigators believe was a drug related incident.

Armstrong says the university will work with San Luis Obispo Police to try to find out what happened over the weekend, and to see if a deeper problem exists in the football program.

The university president says Cal Poly will expand drug testing to include all members of the football team, on a broader basis than required by the NCAA.
