Prosecutors Decide Not To Purse Death Penalty In Ventura County Murder Case Dating Back to 1990′s

Posted on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 8:45pm

Ventura County prosecutors say they won’t see the death penalty in a 17 year old murder case which forensic investigators say they recently solved.

On June 24, 1997, 16 year old Jake Bush was murdered when he, and his mother arrived at their Ventura home while a burglary was in progress.

The crime remained unsolved for years.

In March, State Department of Justice investigators notified Ventura Police they had a hit on fingerprint, and DNA evidence in their criminal data base.

It led to the arrest of Marco Casillas of Port Hueneme.

The now 36 year old man was already in the Ventura County Jail on an unrelated charge at the time of his arrest.

He’s entered not guilty to charges he committed a murder with a knife, and special circumstances that the murder was committed during a burglary.
