Santa Barbara County Fire Chief Announces Retirement Plans

Posted on Monday, August 4, 2014 6:05pm

Santa Barbara County’s top firefighter has announced his retirement.

County Fire Chief Michael Dyer will step down in January, after more than five years as the county’s fire chief, and more than three decades as a firefighter.

Dyer has worked in almost every position in fire agencies.

He was second in command with the Los Angeles County Fire Department when he became Santa Barbara County’s Chief in 2009.

Dyer wanted to announce his retirement early enough that it would give county supervisor ample time to choose a qualified successor.
