Traffic Accident Leaves One Dead, Closes Major Santa Barbara County Highway For Hours

One man is dead following a head on traffic accident which closed the main east-west route between Santa Barbara, and Kern Counties for hours this morning.

It happened just after three this morning on Highway 166, just west of Cuyama.

The CHP says the driver of an eastbound pickup truck drifted across the highway’s center line, causing a head-on crash with a westbound big rig.

The pickup truck driver’s died at the scene.  The big rig driver escaped with minor injuries.

The name of the 29 year old Bakersfield man who died hasn’t been released yet.

The highway was closed for more than two hours by the accident.
