is one of three dozen members of the state’s congressional delegation asking federal officials to ban new oil, and gas leases off of the Central, and South Coasts.
The Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is developing a draft 2017-2022 leasing program for federally controlled offshore areas.
The letter signed by Democratic Congresswoman Lois Capps of Santa Barbara, and 35 others calls for a ban on expanding oil, and gas development off of Northern California, Central California, and Southern California.
The federal agency updates its leasing plan every five years.
