Plans for a major new solar power project in Santa Barbara County received a key approval today.
The Santa Barbara County Planning Commission unanimously approved a proposal by Cuyama Solar, Incorporated to build a solar power facility southeast of Cuyama.
The project calls for placing solar power panels on more than 300 acres of land.
It would generate about 40 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to serve about 15,600 homes.
The project now goes to Santa Barbara County Supervisors for final approval.
