Ventura County Man Sentenced To Year In Jail For Traffic Accident Which Killed Bicyclist

A Ventura County man has been sentenced to a year in jail, and three years probation after being convicted of vehicular manslaughter in an accident which killed a bicyclist.

On October 21st of last year Pablo Tellez-Chavez was driving northbound on the Rose Avenue overpass in Oxnard.

Prosecutors say he suddenly swerved across the road from the number one lane to a freeway onramp, and in the process clipped the back of a bike in a bike lane.

Daniel Meza was thrown from his bike.  The 45 year old Oxnard man was fatally injured.

In addition to the vehicular manslaughter charge, Tellez-Chavez was convicted of driving without a license.  The 31 year old man was unlicensed, and has three prior convictions for driving without a license.
