Search Fails To Find Man Presumed Drowned In Lake Cachuma

Posted on Sunday, July 13, 2014 12:32pm

A 22 year old man is missing, and presumed drowned after an accident at Lake Cacuma.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department officials say three men were out on a boat Friday night when it apparently had engine trouble.

A lake visitor saw a man in the boat waving for help, and two men in the water, and called 911 because they appeared to be in trouble.

One of the men was rescued, but a search for the second failed to turn up any sign of the men.

Sheriff’s Department and County Park Ranger divers searched for the man, but ended up suspending their efforts because of murky conditions underwater.

Because of the search, the lake was closed to boating on Saturday, but it reopened to boaters on Sunday.

The name of the missing man hasn’t been released.  Deputies are still investigating exactly what occurred, but say the missing man may have been trying to swim to shore.
