Memorial Service Held For Arcadia Firefighter Who Died During Ventura County Camping Trip

Posted on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 5:30pm

A memorial service was held today for an Arcadia firefighter who died during a back country camping trip in Ventura County.

Hundreds of family members, friends, and public safety workers from throughout the state gathered for the service held for Mike Herdman at Arcadia High School.

Herdman disappeared June 13th, on a camping trip in the mountains north of Fillmore.

The 36 year old man had gone to look for his dog which ran from the campsite.

A massive air, and ground search was organized, leading to the discovery of Herdman’s body June 27th.

Investigators say he died from blunt force injuries, after he apparently climbed a 1200 foot mountain above the campsite, and fell.
