Whale Carcass Creates Smelly Situation For Central Coast Beach

Posted on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 4:09pm

A scenic state beach on the Central Coast has a massive, smelly problem on its hands.

The carcass of an approximately 35 foot long humpback whale washed up on Montana De Oro State Beach, which is about six miles southwest of Morro Bay.

Researchers say the whale was so decomposed, they couldn’t determine a cause of death.

It’s been there several days, but is so massive there is no way to remove it.

Officials are hoping the surf may take it back out into the ocean.
