Problem With Launch Pad Delays Satellite Launch From Central Coast, Tentatively Rescheduled For Tomorrow

Posted on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 10:26am

A problem with a launch pad at Vandenberg Air Force base led to the postponement of a satellite launch early this morning.

A United launch Alliance Delta II was supposed to carry a NASA satellite into orbit just before three this morning.  A water suppression system used to pour water onto the launch pad to dampen acoustic energy had an issue, leading to the launch being scrubbed.

If all systems check out okay, plans call for the launch to take place at 2:56 a.m. tomorrow.  The weather is predicted to be good for the new launch time, but it has to be, because there’s only a 30 second launch window before it would have to be scrubbed a second time.
