A Central Coast city is considering extending a half cent sales tax which is set to expire.
The Pismo Beach City Council tomorrow night will look at putting a proposed 12 year extension on the November ballot.
The tax raises an estimated $1.3 million dollars a year for the city, which officials say is essential to keep up with street, and pier maintenance.
City officials note that while 100% of the tax revenue benefits the city’s infrastructure, only about 30% of the money comes from city residents, with the rest coming from visitors.
The current half cent sales tax is set to expire next year, so if voters approve the extension, it would keep it in place for another 12 years.
