School District Decides To Permanently Close Elementary School In Ventura County

Posted on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 3:33pm

An elementary school in Ventura County closed on an emergency basis earlier this year because of safety issues is being closed permanently.

The Simi Valley School Board made a final decision last night to shutter Simi Elementary School.

A number of major safety concerns were identified at the school earlier this year, so the campus was closed in February, and students, faculty, and staff were shifted to Mountain View Elementary School.

There is bond money available for the millions in repairs which are needed, but the school board decided repairs don’t make sense when the cash strapped district has empty, available classroom space on other campuses.
