Search for Missing Camper In Ventura County Backcountry Now In Fourth Day

Posted on Thursday, June 19, 2014 12:46am

It’s day four of the search for a missing off duty Southern California firefighter who disappeared on a camping trip in a back country area of Ventura County over the weekend.

There is a glimmer of hope in the search for Arcadia firefighter Mike Herdman.  His dog was found yesterday.

Herdman and a friend were setting up camp Friday night in the mountains about ten miles north of Fillmore when the dog disappeared, and he went looking for it.  When the firefighter failed to return, the friend hiked out on Sunday, and called for help.

Dozens of searchers on foot, and in the air have been combing the area since Monday.  The search resumed at daybreak today.
