Search For Missing Camper In Ventura County Backcountry Now In Third Day

Posted on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 12:24am

There is still no sign of an off duty Southern California firefighter who disappeared in a back country area of Ventura County over the weekend, and has now been missing for more than four full days.

Arcadia firefighter Mike Herdman, and a friend were setting up camp Friday night in the mountains about ten miles north of  Fillmore.  Herdman’s dog disappeared, and he went looking for it.  When the firefighter failed to return, the friend hiked out Sunday, and called for help.

The search area is so remote, Ventura County Search and Rescue Team members had to be flown in by helicopter.
