City Of Santa Paula To Consider Putting Sales Tax Hike Proposal On November Ballot

Posted on Monday, June 16, 2014 9:29am

A South Coast city is looking at a tax hike as a way of beefing up public safety, and street maintenance.

The Santa Paula City Council tonight is scheduled to consider a proposal to ask voters to approve a sales tax increase.

The plan calls for raising the sales tax in Santa Paula from 7.5%, to 8.5%.

If approved by voters in November, it would raise about $1.6 million dollars annually, with half of it going to the police department, and the other half split between the fire department, and street maintenance.

The city made major cuts to its budget during the last few years because of the recession.
