Investigation Into Theft Of ATM Machine In Ventura County Leads To Arrests In More Than Two Dozen Similar Crimes

Posted on Friday, June 13, 2014 1:04pm

What started as the investigation of an ATM from a Conejo Valley market led to three arrests, and solving more than two dozen other similar thefts throughout Southern California.

In January, someone used a metal hand dolly to smash the entry glass doors of a store on the 700 block of Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks, and steal an ATM.  Detectives linked a stolen car to the burglary, and traced it to Canoga Park, where they identified two suspects.  The detectives began working with the LAPD, which also had been dealing with a rash of ATM thefts.

Robert Cassano and Stephen Gran were arrested.  They also identified a third man, Daniel Sweeny of Newport Beach, who Orange County Sheriff’s detectives think may be responsible for as many as 24 ATM thefts.
