Bill Co-Authored By Ventura County Legislator To Increase Funding For County Veterans Service Offices Passed By State Assembly

Posted on Thursday, May 29, 2014 7:46pm

A bill co-authored by a Ventura County legislator calling for increased funding for county veterans services offices has passed a key hurdle, with its passage by the State Assembly.

Republican Assemblyman Jeff Gorell of Camarillo is proposing to appropriate $6 million dollars for the offices statewide.  During the current fiscal year, the offices had a base allocation of $2.6 million dollars, plus a one time increase of $3 million dollars.

AB 2703 would again include the additional $3 million dollars for 2014-2015, plus add an extra $400,000 for an innovation fund.

The offices play an important role in connecting veterans with services which may be available in the counties where they live, steering them through working with local, state, and federal agencies.
