Woman Enters Guilty Plea To Animal Cruelty Charge In Santa Barbara County

Posted on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 5:34pm

A Santa Barbara County woman entered a guilty plea to a felony animal cruelty charge, after stabbing a cat to death.

County prosecutors say in January, Nellie Marie Palacios entered the Orcutt home of her ex-boyfriend, and killed the cat.

A court appointed psychologist testified that she suffers from mental health issues, and had stopped taking her medication.

A plea deal calls for her to receive credit for 25 days served in county jail, be placed on five years probation, and be required to take part in an 18 month long program for those with mental illness, and substance abuse problems.
