Santa Barbara Legislator Co-Authors Bill Trying To Prevent Mass Killings

Posted on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 12:01am

A Santa Barbara based state assemblyman is co-authoring a bill in the wake of the Isla Vista rampage which would give law enforcement agencies new power to intervene with potentially violent people.

Democratic Assemblyman Das Williams of Santa Barbara is proposing a bill which would crate a gun violence restraining order, which would assist  significant others in warning law enforcement about people who may be in crisis.  It would then give law enforcement the ability to investigate, and if warranted ask a judge to prohibit the ownership, or purchase of weapons.

Williams is co-authoring the legislation with Democratic Assemblywoman Nancy Skinner of Berkeley.
