A new supervisor has been named for the Los Padres National Forest.
Robert Baird will take over the post in July.
Baird is currently Deputy National Fire Director for Operations, Aviation, and Risk Management at the Forest Service’s national headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Baird is used to running big operations, retiring from the Marines as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving more than two decades, and seeing combat in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
He will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Peggy Hernandez in February.
The Forest Supervisor in effect serves as the general manager of the national forest.
