Investigators Say Untrimmed Trees Coming In Contact With Power Line Started Santa Barbara County Fire Which Threatened Hundreds Of Homes

Posted on Thursday, May 15, 2014 6:26pm

Fire investigators believe a power line coming in contact with an untrimmed tree during windy conditions sparked a fire which threatened hundreds of homes in Santa Barbara County earlier this week.

The Miguelito Fire burned more than 600 acres of brush, but firefighters moved quickly to prevent damage to homes, and businesses.

Investigators believe that a 12,000 volt power line feeding an industrial facility came in contact with the tree on the 2500 block of San Miguelito Road Tuesday afternoon, dropping hot embers to the ground which then ignited dry brush.

The fire is now 95% contained, with full containment expected by 6 p.m. tomorrow.
