Brush Fire Threatening Homes On Central Coast; Some Evacuations Ordered

Posted on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 2:30pm

Santa Barbara County firefighters are battling a 50 acre brush fire in the Lompoc area, which is prompting some evacuations.

The blaze was reported at about 1:30 p.m., in the 2500 block of San Miguelito Canyon Road.  That’s just south of Lompoc.

The county’s reverse 911 system has been used to order the evacuation of some homes in the area.  The evacuation zone was expanded just before 3 p.m. to include the area from San Miguelito to Olive, and G Streets.

Helicopters, and ground units are being used to fight the fire.

Hot conditions, and erratic wind is being reported in the area.

Meanwhile, firefighters are also dealing with a smaller, approximately one acre brush fire outside of Santa Maria, in the Tanglewood area.

County firefighters say they are also to bringing that smaller blaze under control.
