A popular highway rest stop on the Central Coast is closing through the end of the year, for major renovations.
The Gaviota Safety Roadside Rest Area on Highway 101 will be shut down on Monday. During the next nine months, the heavily used restrooms will be rebuilt, with everything from new water efficient fixtures, to new paint. The stops on both sides of the 101 will also have their landscaping redone.
The $920,000 plus project is expected to be done neat January.
