A former Ventura County social worker has entered guilty pleas to charges she embezzled money, and benefits which were supposed to go to those in need.

Ventura County prosecutors say Ana Maria Castro pled guilty to misappropriation of public funds, embezzlement of public funds, public benefits fraud, and filing false or forged documents,

They say the Oxnard woman was a Ventura County Human Services Agency client benefits specialist who was supposed to manage welfare case, and issue food stamps and cash benefits.  But, they say she misappropriated more than $200,000 in aid to herself, and others.  The 37 year old woman is set to be sentenced in July.

Castro’s mother, and a cousin pled guilty to charges they improperly accepted benefits.
