Posted on Friday, April 18, 2014 5:02pm

It was a tense afternoon in one Ventura County community, as the result of a gas leak in the city’s downtown area.

Several blocks of downtown Ojai were closed, and there were some evacuations as a result of a gas line being rupture.

It started at around 2 p.m., on the 200 block of North Montgomery Street.

A backhoe being used for a construction project apparently caused the rupture.

Some businesses, several houses, and a small high school were evacuated, and a number of streets in the area were closed.

The leak was stopped, and the evacuations lifted just before 4:30 p.m.

A backhoe being used for a construction project apparent caused the rupture.
