A new San Luis Obispo County Grand Jury report says the county Sheriff’s Department Crime Lab needs to be expanded.
The six page report says the lab is housed in a facility which is cramped, and overcrowded, and that the space needs to be enlarged or moved to a new location.
The Grand Jury says the lab is currently housed in a building which also accommodates other Sheriff’s Department offices, and is tight on space. The jurors say work space is limited, and adding equipment may not be feasible.
The report notes that despite its limited space, the lab staff is doing a good job.
It also notes that consolidating the Coroner’s Office operations from a private mortuary in Los Osos, and offices in the Sheriff’s Department’s complex to a new, permanent facility has improved efficiency.
