Two Central Coast Men Arrested For Seafood Thefts At Santa Barbara Harbor

Posted on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 8:32am

Authorities say there’s been something very fishy happening at a local harbor, something which landed two fishermen in jail.

State Fish and Wildlife officials had been receiving reports of rock crabs, and other species being stolen from commercial fishermen, and fish markets at Santa Barbara Harbor.

Officers conducted a two month long investigation, and say they observed John Wilson, of Santa Ynez, and Kai Griffin, of Buellton stealing live rock crabs from storage tanks at the harbor, and then selling them at the Hollywood Farmer’s Market.

They say the men were also selling some illegally landed, and out of season species.

The two are facing felony conspiracy, and grand theft charges.
