Central Coast Man Faces Five Year Prison Sentence For Defrauding Indian Tribe

Posted on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 1:14pm

A Central Coast man entered a guilty plea to a charge that he defrauded an Indian tribe through an elaborate kickback scheme.

David Heslop had been hired by the Coachella Valley Indian Tribe to oversee some tribal business, including projects at the Spotlight 29 Casino.

The 76 year old Templeton man admitted in federal court in Los Angeles that he paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to bribe the tribe’s attorney.

Prosecutors say Heslop and the attorney, Gary Kovall, formed companies to benefit from the casino contracts.

Heslop could receive up to five years in prison when he’s sentenced September 29th.
