New Grand Jury Report Critical Of Recreation District In Santa Barbara County

Posted on Monday, April 7, 2014 7:15am

A new Grand Jury report is critical of a recreation district in Santa Barbara County.

The report says the Cuyama Valley Recreation District is operating below its potential, and is only providing minimal services.

The Grand Jury says the sports programs lack structure, and in many cases, the supervisors are untrained high school students.

The report says the district cites a lack of funding as the reason for its limited services, but says its research shows community members would be willing to pay more for improved programs.

The report says a review of the Cuyama district’s operating policies and procedures should help steer the agency in the right direction.
