Congresswoman From Tri-Counties Wants To Take On What She Calls Deceptive Advertising

Posted on Friday, March 28, 2014 12:01am

A congresswoman from the Tri-Counties has co-authored a bill which would try to take on the use of physically altered images of people in advertising.

Democratic Congresswoman Lois Capps of Santa Barbara is co-author of what’s being called the Truth in Advertising Act.  The bipartisan legislation would direct the Federal Trade Commission to study the use of physically altered images of people.

Capps says research shows that images of this type are creating emotional, mental, and physical issues like eating disorders, especially among young people.
