Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body in the Los Padres National Forest, in Ventura County.

Hikers spotted the body in the Devil’s Punchbowl area of Santa Paula Canyon around 7:30 last night, but Ventura County Sheriff’s Department detectives weren’t able to get into the area until today.

It’s a very remote area.

There’s no word on whether the body is that of a male, or female, or whether foul play is suspected.

A team from the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office is being flown into the area by Sheriff’s Department helicopter at this hour, to remove the remains.
