Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Now Saying Dog Shot By Sheriff’s Deputy Survived

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department now says a dog which was shot after attacking a deputy in Fillmore survived.

Department officials initially said the dog died as a result of the wounds int suffered following the Tuesday morning incident in Fillmore.  A deputy reported that while investigating some graffiti under the A Street bridge, he was attacked by two dogs, and forced to open fire to defend himself.  One of the dogs was hit, and the other fled.  The injured male dog was taken to a veterinarian’s office, where it was treated.

The deputy fell, but was uninjured by the dogs.  Because shots were fired, the department is investigating the incident.
