Federal Government Makes More Than $2.5 Million Dollars in Grants To Improve Affordable Housing In Ventura, Santa Barbara Counties

Posted on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 12:24pm

The federal government has awarded more than $2.5 million dollars to agencies in Ventura, and Santa Barbara counties to help develop, and improve affordable housing.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development gave the Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura $873,000, the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara $814,000, and the Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara $667,000.

Because rents for subsidized housing offered by local agencies are so low, they often don’t generate enough money to pay for major maintenance projects.

The federal grants will help pay for things like water heater replacements, and general repairs.
