Two months after a plane plunged into the ocean off the Central Coast, killing two men, the identity of one of them has been positively identified through DNA testing.
A single engine experimental aircraft plunged into the ocean off of Oceano January 14th.
It took weeks to find the wreckage, and no bodies were recovered.
San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s department officials say DNA testing positively identified the pilot, David Brian Casey, who was a Washington state resident.
A positive ID on the passenger is still pending, but it’s assumed it was Alan George Gaynor of Los Angeles, who was believed to be on board the plane.
The Sheriff’s Department is working with federal authorities to recover the wreckage from the ocean floor, to try to determine what caused the crash.
