Court Ruling Rejects Fishing Industry Lawsuit, Supports Federal Decision To Remove Restrictions On Sea Otter Habitat

They are friendly looking, furry mammals which were once plentiful off our coastline, but were almost hunted to extinction in the 1800’s.

Southern Sea Otters are now federally protected, but have been the focus of a decades old legal battle, with the fishing industry worried their re-establishment south of Point Conception could decimate their livelihood.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports explains the results of the latest round in a complex fight which dates back to the 1980’s.
