Man Accused Of Arson, Vandalism On Central Coast Suffers Fractured Skull After Being Stopped By Neighborhood Residents

Posted on Friday, February 14, 2014 2:43pm

A man arrested by San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies on arson, and vandalism charges may be glad they found him, because he was being attacked by angry neighborhood residents.

Deputies were called to the 1300 block of La Quinta Drive in Nipomo at around 9:30 last night, by reports of a house fire, and also someone vandalizing vehicles, and homes.

They then received a report of some people fighting around the corner on the 1300 block of La Loma Drive.

Deputies say they found Jacob Eugene Bernerd of Nipomo at the scene.

The 35 year old man had been hit in the head by someone with a two by four.

Investigators say Bernerd set the fire in a house, and then rode through the neighborhood on a bike, breaking some home windows, and damaging some vehicles before he was stopped.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment of a fractured skull.
