Ventura Man Arrested After Authorities Say He Tried To Run Down Sheriff’s Deputy

Posted on Thursday, February 13, 2014 12:59am

A man has been arrested after authorities say he tried to run down a Ventura County Sheriff’s deputy.

Deputies were patrolling the 5200 block of Floral Drive, just north of Ventura Tuesday night, when they tried to talk to a man sitting in a parked vehicle.

They say there had been a rash of burglaries in the area, and the situation looked suspicious.

As the deputies approached the vehicle, they say Arturo Baranda started it, and accelerated towards one of the officers.

The deputy was able to get out of the way safely.

After a chase, he was arrested at a home down the street.

They say the 18 year old Ventura man was on probation, and had marijuana in his possession.

He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
