Effort Underway To Document High Tides in Ventura, Santa Barbara Counties This Week

Posted on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 12:47am

Some of 2013′s, and 2014′s highest tides are hitting Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties this week, and some people are trying to document them, as examples of what rising sea levels could bring to the region.

The highest tides of the week are expected at 8:32 a.m. tomorrow in Ventura County, and 8:42 a.m. in Santa Barbara County.

The California King Tides Initiative is lining up volunteers to shoot pictures of the impacts of the high tides, especially in areas which can be hard hit by coastal flooding.

Researchers will use the information which is gathered to better understand what areas can be impacted by high tides.

Organizers say it will provide a graphic example of the potential long term impacts of rising sea levels attributed to climate change.
