Police Say They Arrest Man Trying To Start Brush Fire In Ventura County

Posted on Sunday, December 22, 2013 6:04pm

Police say they’ve arrested a man who was trying to start a brush fire in Ventura County.

An Oxnard Police officer on patrol just before 11 a.m. Saturday morning reported seeing Eduardo Hernandez fanning a fire near some railroad tracks on the 1600 block of East Fifth Street.  As the officer approached the scene, Eduardo Hernandez started walking away from the area.

The officer says when the 40 year old man was ordered to stop, he became combative, and had to be apprehended with the help of a K-9.  Hernandez suffered minor injuries during his arrest.

He was booked for arson, resisting arrest, and threatening a police officer.

Police say Hernandez had a previous arson arrest.  The fire on Fifth Street was put out before it could cause serious damage.
