A Kern County man convicted of second degree murder for a fatal crash on the Central Coast received a 15 years to life prison sentence.

Jerad Cross of Bakersfield was convicted for the November 2012, crash on Highway 46 outside of Paso Robles.  Prosecutors say the 31 year old man was under the influence of drugs, and when he came to a construction zone, he slammed into a stopped pickup truck.

The truck’s driver, Richard Gamez of Clovis, was killed.

In addition to the second degree murder conviction, Cross was found guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter while under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
