Two men are behind bars in Central California on child cruelty charges, following the death of a Ventura County teenager.
Fresno television station KSFN reports that the body of 17 year old Tara McGuire was found near Rock Creek Campground, in the Sierra National Forest.
Authorities received a call from a man Monday afternoon saying his group was stranded in the area, without gas or food.
When search and rescue teams found the two men, they say they were told that McGuire had disappeared.
Her body was found a few hours later in a stream near the campground.
Madera County Sheriff’s Department detectives say Scott Mason of Simi Valley, and Jason Banaga admitted being on a multi-day drug binge.
Detectives aren’t talking about what they think happened.
Autopsy results on the teen aren’t expected until after the holidays.
