Amateur Cyclists Will Get Chance To Ride Section Of Amgen Tour Of California Route In Ventura County

Posted on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 4:53pm

Amateur cyclists are going to be able to get a real taste of the 2014 Amgen Tour of California professional race, with a special event in Ventura County duplicating the tour’s 80 mile final stage of the competition.

The L’Etape du California will give cyclists the chance to try the often challenging route which goes into the Santa Monica Mountains, and finishes in Thousand Oaks.  The event will take place April 6th, a little more than a month before the Amgen Tour, which is May 11th-18th.

The amateur competition is limited to 1500 riders.  In past years, some of the professional riders have taken part in the event so they can get a preview of what it will be like on their big race day.
