Santa Barbara County Considering Putting Oil Production Tax Proposal To Voters

Posted on Thursday, December 12, 2013 12:27am

Santa Barbara County found itself millions of dollars in the red during its last budget cycle.

The county balanced the budget, but money remains a huge issue.

Now, county officials are taking a close look at a county Grand Jury recommendation which proposed creating a oil production tax.

It could generate millions, by charging a per barrel tax on each of the 3.4 million barrels of oil now produced in the county annually.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports Santa Barbara County supervisors have called a special meeting for next Monday, to look at placing the issue on the ballot for voters to decide.
