Santa Barbara County found itself millions of dollars in the red during its last budget cycle.
The county balanced the budget, but money remains a huge issue.
Now, county officials are taking a close look at a county Grand Jury recommendation which proposed creating a oil production tax.
It could generate millions, by charging a per barrel tax on each of the 3.4 million barrels of oil now produced in the county annually.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports Santa Barbara County supervisors have called a special meeting for next Monday, to look at placing the issue on the ballot for voters to decide.
