Brush Fire In Ventura County Now 50% Contained; Estimate of Acreage Burned Downgraded

Posted on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 3:37pm

A brush fire burning in a remote area outside of Moorpark is now 50% contained, and the estimate of acreage burned is now being downgraded.

The fire was reported just after 2 a.m., north of the 118 Freeway between Moorpark College, and the Rustic Canyon Golf Course.  Wind gusts of 20 to 30 miles an hour quickly moved the fire through some light brush in the area, and into some eucalyptus groves.  Early estimates put the fire at about 50 acres, but the number has since been downgraded to 44.

At is peak, 100 firefighters battled the blaze.  About 25 of the firefighters have since been released.  It’s expected some firefighters will be on scene all night long, to ensure there isn’t a flare-up.

No structures have been damaged.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
